Transmission Rebuilding

We specialize in rebuilding of the 1929 to 1937 45" twin transmissions and have a thorough understanding of how they are designed and function. We inspect all components for wear and check clearances between bushings and shafts. Bushings and bearings are replaced where necessary. The case and side cover are bead blasted, and all visible hardware is re-plated or replaced with the correct finishes. We use new gaskets and make all necessary adjustments.

1929-1934 three-speed:
Because the 1929-1934 three-speed transmission is a sliding gear type, the sliding gear and the second speed gear on the cluster gear will most likely show considerable wear. The sliding gear can be replaced when available but cluster gears are not currently available.

1933 & 1934 reversing and all 1935-1937:
The "slant-top" transmission was Harley-Davidson's first constant-mesh transmission and the gear teeth are usually in excellent condition. Worn parts are replaced with new old stock when available or precision made reproductions.
