Motor Shims: All motors must be shimmed when installed in the frame.
I have never installed a motor that did not need some shimming, and failure to do so presents the risk
of breaking off one of the crank case mounting tabs.
Remember to remove all traces of paint from the front and rear motor perches on the frame prior to
installing the engine since this surface is used to conduct current.
Set the motor in the frame and install the two rear motor mounting bolts and nuts, tightening the nuts until snug. Using feeler guages,
measure the clearance between the front crank case mounting tabs and the frame perch. Only one side will
need shims, and the gap can vary from a few thousandths of an inch to thirty thousandths of an inch or more. |
